Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs-heirs of God and coheirs with Christ- seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Do you ever have doubts about whether or not you are a child of God? Thankfully, salvation does not rest on how we feel. Salvation is found in who God is, and what He has done by His grace in our lives, through Jesus. We can have the joy of assurance because of who God is and what He has promised.
It is a great privilege to be called a child of God. How can we know that we are children of God? The Apostle Paul wrote that the Spirit of God Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. If we are children, we are also heirs of God and coheirs with Christ. Think about it- all that belongs to Christ, belongs to us as God’s children. I do not think our human understanding can fully lay hold of the significance of what this means. I am certain our comprehension of it, falls far short of the reality of what God has in store for His family.
We can have the joy of assurance, even when things are difficult as we serve God. Suffering is presented as a given in the Scripture, and it is to be expected. It is not “if” we suffer in serving Christ, but what happens “when” we suffer in serving Christ. Because of the assurance we have in Him, we are able to endure suffering, knowing there will come a time when we will be glorified with Him!
Thank God for His Son, and the salvation He has secured. Thank God for His Spirit testifying that we are God’s children. If you do not know Christ, now would be a good time to repent and believe, and become a child of God and have the joy of assurance!
John 1:12 But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name.
