Live With Urgency

People everywhere are in a hurry. To hurry means to move or act with great haste. There are so many things to do, and so little time it seems to accomplish them all. Life moves at a fast pace, and it is easy to get caught up in the hurried pace of it all. Sometimes we have to hurry just to keep up even we don’t want to hurry.

There is a difference between hurry and urgency. Hurry relates primarily to the activities we do, while urgency relates to the passion with which we do things. Hurry is the what, and urgency is the why. A lot of people seem to wear hurry as a badge of honor. The problem is, if we are always in a hurry, we may miss out on the urgency.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 13:11, Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

No one knows how long they will live. Martin Luther said we should live with the day of our death constantly before our eyes. Life is short and eternity is long. Wake up and open your eyes to what is real. Our deliverance from this present world is closer than we realize. In the meantime we must be faithful to advance God’s kingdom.

The missionary Robert Moffat said, “We’ll have all eternity to celebrate our victories, But only one short hour before sunset to win them.”

Live with urgency!
