The single greatest factor in your spiritual growth or lack thereof is the time you spend in the Word of God. I think all Christians know this intuitively but we find all sorts of excuses not to devote ourselves as we should. After all, life is busy and cluttered with so many distractions.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:7-8
Submit. . .draw near. . .cleanse your hands. . .purify your hearts.
Lifeway Research asked Americans a question. “How much of the Bible have your personally read?” The replies are revealing.
10% None of it
13% Only a few sentences
30% Several passages or stories
15% At least half of it
12% Almost all of it
11% All of it
9% All of it more than once
(Americans Are Fond of the Bible, Don’t Actually Read It)
What is your honest answer to the question? Wherever you are in your devotional life, make a renewed commitment in 2019 to spend time daily in the Word of God and prayer.
Happy New Year! I pray the new year will be a year of blessing as you pursue God.
