Joy is sometimes described as an emotion of happiness. Joy as an emotion of happiness is in part accurate. Yet spiritually the idea of joy goes a lot deeper. There is unhappiness in the world and people often search for joy in empty or unsatisfying sources. Joy comes to the believer in Jesus Christ from the Holy Spirit. When we are connected to the Vine by faith, the Holy Spirit indwells us, and he produces the fruit of the Spirit in our lives with one major aspect being that of joy.

The Bible says a lot about the Holy Spirit as our joy.

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 

1 Thessalonians 1:6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit. 

Hebrews 1:9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions. 

The Holy Spirit brings joy in our hearts like a well of water springing up. He drives away fears and sorrows and strengthens us in times of trouble. The Holy Spirit brings joy by assuring us of the love of God and our acceptance in him.

Do you need joy in your life? Rest in who you are in Jesus Christ and receive the gift of joy the Holy Spirit brings to you by faith.
