Don’t Live in Fear

There is a lot of fear right now because of the Coronavirus situation. If if weren’t Coronavirus it would be something else in the troubled world in which we live. What is it that causes fear in our lives? There are multiple sources of fear. We fear actual or perceived dangers around us. I think what we fear the most though, is the unknown. We wonder what will happen if we face something dangerous to our lives or the lives of the people we love.

There are a few things we can do to overcome our fears and live with courage. It is important to keep things in perspective. Don’t let your mind or your heart be overwhelmed about something that is unlikely to ever affect you, or even if it does affect you is unlikely to be the worst-case scenario.

Then, focus on what you can control, not what is out of your control. Take care of yourself, exercise reasonable precautions against danger, and live your life. The things which are out of your control are just that, they are out of your control. So why worry about them? Why let fear overtake you?

Focus on God, not on your fears. If it is true we have a good Heavenly Father who loves us eternally, then we are in the best hands of all. Life on this earth is not eternal, but eternal life with God is. Meaning that even if we are well protected in this life, none of us will live forever.

I refuse to live in fear. It is unhealthy and unproductive. I want to have a strong resolve that no matter the circumstances, my peace is found in God. I will not be shaken because my hope is in the one who is unchanging and is always faithful.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 56:3-4 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Lord, help us not to be overcome by fears but to look to you in faith. We live in a troubled world with many dangers. Yet your love and care for us surpasses all of our fears. Grow our faith and grant us the courage to live for you.
