We live in a world that is often stressful and noisy. How does a tranquil and quiet life sound to you? Did you know God gives guidance in the Bible on how to have such a life? I was reading this morning in 1 Timothy 2 and came across verses 1 and 2 which brought this to mind. “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”
Tranquility is a state of peace and quiet. Prayer is connected to a peaceful and quiet life. When we pray and spend time in God’s Word we are able to have a right perspective of God, and a right perspective of ourselves and our problems. God never worries. God is never stressed out. God is never distracted by all of the noise in the world. So why should I worry? Why should I be stressed out? Why should I be distracted by all of the noise in the world?
Tranquility and quiet are also connected to godliness and dignity. Godly people are growing to be more like Jesus and have a desire to be faithful. Dignity is defined as a nobleness or a high sense of propriety, with an abhorrence for sin.
Follow the connections here. We are called to pray, so we can live a tranquil and quiet life, in all godliness and dignity. A tranquil and quiet life is ours for the living!
